Ramos Law Firm provides dinner to Genesis Shelter

In an effort to assist the homeless population in downtown Atlanta, the Ramos Law Firm provided dinner to the residents of the Genesis Shelter on June 29, 2009. The Genesis Shelter aims to provide an environment that allows homeless newborns to grow and develop in a nurturing and healthy surrounding. The Shelter enables homeless families to remain together during tough times.

According to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, over 75,000 Georgians experienced homelessness in 2008. “In this devastating economy, our community must pull together and do whatever we can to help,” stated Bryan Ramos, a workers’ compensation attorney at the Ramos Law Firm. “Providing a simple dinner to a group of families can go a long way. Being homeless is hopefully a temporary situation. If our firm can assist in one step of the process, we are all the better.” Ramos continued. The Genesis Shelter provides many services to assist families such as a counseling, child development, and after-care programs.

Make-A-Wish Foundation Recognizes The Ramos Law Firm

Since it’s Friday we thought we’d keep it light today. At the Ramos Law Firm we like to promote community involvement and get involved ourselves. Earlier this year several attorneys, staff members and their families participated in the Walk for Wishes to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

In appreciation for those fundraising efforts we recently received this certificate which tells the story of Chase. Chase is an 11 year old boy who had a “puppy wish”. Make-A-Wish, with the help of all its donors, was able to provide Chase with a puppy and the means to care for that puppy for quite some time.

Ramos Law Firm Members Help Make Wishes Come True

The Ramos Law Firm participated in the 2009 Walk For Wishes for the Make-A-Wish Foundation on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Atlantic Station. The Walk kicked-off with music, food, and stories from the children benefitting from the event. Other teams included participants from Concentra Medical Clinic, Kohl’s, GMAC, and Carter Properties. The Walk was approximately two miles long which wrapped around Atlantic Station. “Our workers’ compensation attorneys are active in the community, and I am glad that we were able to lend a hand today,” Bryan Ramos commented.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. The Foundation is the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 69 chapters in the U.S. and its territories. Granting more than 12,500 wishes a year and 141,000 wishes in the United States since inception, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® grants one wish every 41 minutes.

The Ramos Law Firm team was able to raise approximately $2,000 in pledges and donations to assist in the Make-A-Wish Foundation mission. The workers’ compensation attorneys who participated were Bryan Ramos and Julia Lindsey. The remainder of the Ramos Law Firm team members consisted of The Lindsey family (some of which were in strollers), Lindsay Nail (RLF staff member), Kathy Rhinehart, Mariann Pate, Karen Smith, Elaine Taylor, Cynthia Pagano, Marcia Lewis, Timothy Clements, and Annette Simelaro.

Make-A-Wish Walk

On April 25, 2009 members from the Ramos Law Firm and their families will participate in the Make-A-Wish Walk at Atlantic Station Central Park. The pre-event activities will begin at 8:30 am and the 2 mile walk/run will begin at 10:30 am. This event will raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Lucy Hall-Gainer Honored on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

The Mary Hall Freedom House (MHFH), located in Sandy Springs, seeks to improve the quality of life of women and women with children by empowering them to break the cycle of addiction, poverty, and homelessness. The house accomplishes these goals by providing a comprehensive residential recovery program, which caters to the needs of women and women with children. The MHFH offers its residents substance abuse treatment, mental health and medical care, various types of housing, child daycare, and individual and family counseling. Since its creation in 1996 the MHFH has helped more than 3,000 women.

On Monday, January 19, 2009, (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day), MHFH founder, Lucy Hall-Gainer, was honored by the City of Sandy Springs for her accomplishments over the past 12 years. Ms. Hall-Gainer established the charitable organization in honor of her mother, Mary Hall, who died of alcoholism when Lucy was only six-years-old. Ms. Hall-Gainer has also received the Robert Wood Johnson Community Health Leadership Award, Atlanta Magazine’s Women Making a Mark award, and Working Mother Magazine’s Mom That Makes It Happen – Raising the Ruckus award.

Four members of the Ramos Law Firm (Tiffany Yamini, Adriana Sola Capifali, Lindsay Nail, and Bridget Williams) paid homage to Ms. Hall-Gainer’s accomplishments on Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday by serving MHFH residents breakfast before the honorary ceremony.

King Day: A Day On, Not A Day Off for the Ramos Law Firm

On January 19^th, four members of the Ramos Law Firm, Tiffany Yamini, Adriana Sola Capifali, Lindsay Nail and Bridget Williams joined the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA) in a volunteer project at the Mary Hall Freedom House. The Mary Hall Freedom House is a residential center which assists mothers who are battling addiction.

The Ramos Law Firm and GABWA volunteers prepared a breakfast for the women and children of Mary Hall Freedom House. The breakfast began with the singing of various inspirational songs to celebrate the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday and the personal struggles the ladies of the Mary Hall Freedom House have overcome. The camaraderie amongst the ladies of the Mary Hall Freedom House was exceptional and it was wonderful to see the special relationship many of the mothers had with one another.

The breakfast was followed by a ceremony to honor Lucy Hall-Gainer, who founded the Mary Hall Freedom House. Ms. Lucy Hall-Gainer was awarded the annual Humanitarian Award by the City of Sandy Springs. Every year, the City of Sandy Springs recognizes an individual who embodies the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

As in the words of Ms. Hall-Gainer, the Mary Hall Freedom House is one of “Sandy Springs’ best-kept secrets.” The City of Sandy Springs is truly lucky to have an organization which provides a comprehensive program for mothers and children in their community.

As a whole the GABWA and Ramos Law Firm volunteers, truly enjoyed the service project and received thanks from all of the ladies at the Mary Hall Freedom House for preparing breakfast.

Serving breakfast on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

For the past two years we have asked our employees to volunteer with the charity of their choice on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This year half of our firm has decided to volunteer with GABWA and serve breakfast for families of Cascade House and Genesis.

Genesis Shelter concentrates on helping families who have found themselves without a home. They provide not only shelter but a place where the kids can learn and play while the parents gain the skills necessary to get back on their feet.
